ABOUT DR. KADRO
Dr. Zachary Kadro, ND, MPH is a naturopathic physician, research scientist, and public health professional specializing in Naturopathic Integrative Oncology. Dr. Kadro uses nutrition, physical activity, mind-body practices, and natural products to help people before, during, and after cancer treatment improve their health, manage the side effects of treatment, and optimize treatment outcomes using an evidence-informed, patient-centered approach to care.

Clinical Interests
Dr. Kadro specializes in providing evidence-informed guidance on integrating natural therapies with conventional cancer treatment. He has extensive experience helping people manage the acute and chronic side effects of cancer treatment. He also focuses on developing individualized recommendations for survivorship. Dr. Kadro enjoys working with patients to develop the knowledge, skills, and motivation for creating and implementing a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
Dr. Kadro also provides general naturopathic care for people dealing with common chronic conditions including cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, migraines, arthritis, depression, anxiety, obesity, gastrointestinal disorders, fatigue, and many other common conditions. Additionally, Dr. Kadro works with people interested in improving their overall health, well-being, vitality, and performance in life, family, and work. Dr. Kadro believes that "whenever possible, prevention is the best medicine; learning how to use natural health approaches to prevent disease, slow and reverse aging, and achieve optimal health empowers people to reach their full potential."
Research Interests
Dr. Kadro's research interests include nutrition, dietary supplements, mindfulness and meditation, and social determinants of health.
Current Research Projects
Dr. Kadro is involved in research looking at the potential of mobile health applications to improve patient-provider communication regarding the use and documentation of dietary supplements in the electronic health record.
He is also writing a review paper on the clinical trials that have used omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil and algae oil) in women with breast cancer. Dr. Kadro is also co-authoring a paper on the effect of omega-3 fatty acids on pain in people suffering from chronic migraine headaches. Dr. Kadro was the lead author on a recently presented abstract at the American Association for Cancer Research about the association between the food environment and food insecurity on fruit and vegetable intake among urban-dwelling Latina breast cancer survivors.
Education
Before earning his Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington, Dr. Kadro completed a Bachelor in General Studies degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. During his postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Kadro earned a Master of Public Health degree.
Residency
After earning his doctoral degree, Dr. Kadro completed a highly competitive two-year hospital-based residency program in naturopathic oncology at the Goshen Center for Cancer Care, one of the nation's only hospital-based naturopathic oncology residency training programs.
Fellowship
Following residency, Dr. Kadro was awarded an appointment as a National Institutes of Health-funded T32 Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, Program on Integrative Medicine, where he spent three years receiving rigorous training in research methodology, participated in research activities, co-authored and published scientific research papers, and earned a Master of Public Health degree.
Staff Positions
After completing his fellowship, Dr. Kadro became a staff naturopathic physician and staff scientist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, Washington, where he was both a clinician and researcher in the Integrative Medicine Program in the Division of Supportive Care, and the Cancer Prevention Program in the Division of Public Health Sciences. Dr. Kadro also served as a teaching associate in the University of Washington School of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology, and as a naturopathic physician in the University of Washington Physicians Group. Dr. Kadro was the first credentialed naturopathic physician to create a full-time clinical practice within the University of Washington's health system, UW Medicine. Dr. Kadro was also the first naturopathic physician, along with Dr. Blake Langley, ND, LAc, to become a Staff Scientist at Fred Hutch Cancer Center. In the summer of 2024, Dr. Kadro and his family decided to relocate to their home state of Michigan. Dr. Kadro is excited to bring his knowledge, education, and experience back to Michigan. Dr. Kadro is currently on staff as a Senior Naturopath at Beaumont Hospital, Corewell Health, and has a private practice in Bloomfield Township where he is delighted to be a practice partner with Dr. Jen Green, ND, at Emcura Integrative Medicine.
